UPDATE: On Thursday, June 26, in a 5-4 ruling, the Supreme Court struck down the DC gun ban and ruled that individuals have the right to bear arms. For more, read: Supreme Court Strikes Down D.C. Gun Ban, Upholds Individual Right to Keep and Bear Arms; Supremes: Individuals have right to bear arms.
While this ruling is extremely important and correct, the down side is that 4 justices dissented; 4 justices actually ruled in opposition to our Constitution. Does this leave any doubt as to why we need to make certain no more liberal/activist judges get appointed to the Supreme Court?

Today - Tuesday, March 18, 2008 - the United States Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in the case of District of Columbia, et al., Petitioners v. Dick Anthony Heller. This case is especially important for all Americans to pay close attention to because it deals with our Second Amendment right to bear arms.
Dick Heller, a police officer for the federal government, carries a handgun while on the job patrolling federal buildings. However, District of Columbia law prohibits Mr. Heller and nearly every other D.C. resident from registering a handgun for personal use. Mr. Heller contends that the handgun is necessary to defend himself at home.
The District of Columbia’s gun ban has been on the books for more than 30 years. It is one of the most severe laws in the Country, and was passed to prevent violent and accidental gun violence.
Mr. Heller’s lawsuit against the District of Columbia was initially dismissed. However, the D.C. Circuit of Appeals overturned the ruling. It declared that the Second Amendment guarentees all individuals the right to keep and bear arms.

If you think that the right of the people to keep and bear arms is a right that doesn’t need to be vigorously upheld, consider this:
“The most foolish mistake we could possibly make would be to allow the people to carry arms. History shows that all conquerors who have allowed their subjected peoples to carry arms have prepared their own downfall by so doing.” - Adolph Hitler; Edict of March 18, 1938
“A free people ought not only to be armed and disciplined, but they should have sufficient arms and ammunition to maintain a status of independence from any who might attempt to abuse them, which would include their own government.” - George Washington

The ‘Recession’ Is a Media Myth (Excerpt from this article: The media’s focus on the negative side of everything surely helps explain people’s pessimism. In a recent interview Fox’s Neil Cavuto claimed this bias “is all part of the media’s plan to get a Democrat in the White House.”)
